John is an active, fit, “youngish” gentleman. John was diagnosed with dementia and experienced cognitive decline. He is constantly at risk of making unsafe choices so John’s wife, Linda, cares for John. Linda, although lovingly caring for her husband, was struggling to meet his needs and support her own well-being.
Linda and John were referred to the Daybreak Program, which runs enriching recreational activities for seniors in a safe environment. Through this program, John participates in various social and physical activities, including chair yoga, crafting projects, trivia games and discussion groups. The program has provided John with a much-needed outlet for his energy while offering caregiver respite for Linda without having to place John in costly long-term care. Thanks to United Way British Columbia donors, John and Linda continue to enjoy life with dignity.
