June 18, 2020 – This spring, the Central Okanagan Foundation and United Way’s GenNext contributed $6,000 to support three youth led projects based in the Central Okanagan.
These grants are available to young people up to age 25 who are partnering with an organization to create positive change in their local community. A committee comprising of youth representatives from the Central Okanagan Foundation and GenNext Kelowna met in late March to review the applications and make funding decisions.
“Youth are the future of our communities, and we are proud to support these three impactful projects that empower youth to make a positive difference right here in their local community,” says Reanne Holden-Amadio, Community Investment Manager at United Way Southern Interior BC. “United Way’s GenNext Board is a key champion for youth leadership in the region and we are grateful for their support in helping fund the Youth Initiative Grants.”
The Youth Initiative Grant recipients for 2020 are:
- Green Screen, Enactus Okanagan College (Kelowna)
- Adaptive Scavenger Hunt, CRIS Adaptive Adventures (Kelowna)
- Youth Advisory Council, YMCA (Kelowna)
“The Youth Initiative Grant program showcases the incredible initiatives youth in our community are implementing. Each year, we are so impressed with the creativity and thoughtfulness of all the applicants and look forward to seeing their plans put into action in the coming months,” says Abbie Norrish, Coordinator of Grants & Community Initiatives at the Central Okanagan Foundation.
Youth Initiative Grant funding will be available again in the winter of 2021. For more information, visit:
