A night of laughter and giving. October 24, 2019
October 30, 2019 – Interior Savings presented the inaugural United Way Celebrity Roast featuring Maxine DeHart last week and it was a great success raising over $52,400! Over 200 guests enjoyed an evening of laughter and giving at the Willowstone Academy and First Lutheran Church hall and theatre.
Thanks go out to everyone who attended and contributed to the United Way Celebrity Roast in some way whether it was time, talent or treasure. Sponsors included Interior Savings, Interstate Batteries and the Roasters Foundation, “Friends of Maxine” – Coast Capri Hotel, Farris, Playtime Casino, and Valley Mitsubishi, numerous in-kind sponsors, generous media partners – Bell Media, Castanet, Capital News, Global Okanagan and Kelowna Now.
The event offered wine and dining at the Max Mixer at 5:30 which included dinner, drinks and a decadent chocolate chacuterie dessert at intermission.
The Anna Jacyszyn Trio entertained guests while they wined and dined. The show started at 7 pm sharp and featured local “celebrities” roasting Maxine DeHart who, of course, had the last word. Local comedian, Rob Balsdon emceed the event which ensured the evening was jam-packed with belly laughs.
The Roasters Panel was introduced first by Rob and included Phil Johnson, Stan Martindale, Rick Webber, Anna Jacyszyn (who sang her “toast”), Steve Francis, Loyal Wooldridge and Ryan Donn. David Webb punctuated the one liners on drums.
Maxine DeHart was led into the theatre flanked by the BC Dragoons and seated in a “princess chair” loaned by The Extensionist Salon on Bernard.
Creative Cuisine Catering provided an amazing spread at the Max Mixer reception and guests were served bubbly, wine, beer and cider donated from Summerhill Winery, Indigenous World Winery, The View Winery/Wards Cider, and Freddy’s Brew Pub.
Argus Properties and The Eldorado Resort donated a VIP weekend package that raised additional funds and one lucky guest received this raffle prize at the end of the night. Thanks to the Argus team for selling the tickets!
Huge thanks to Maxine for being such a good sport, her family and all her supporters!! The final tally is still a moving target, but we are thrilled with the support and results of the event. An evening of laughter and giving resulted in an a wonderful “show” of local love. Pun intended.
These funds are vital for our community fund and supporting children and families in our region. Everything raised here, stays here in our commmunity.
