December 1, 2020 – Giving Tuesday Okanagan was incredibly important this year as many charities struggle to adapt to COVID protocols and fundraise in the midst of a pandemic forcing all Giving Tuesday activities either virtual or online. Donations this Giving Tuesday tripled since 2019! Thank you to everyone who donated so generously.

The United Way team participated in several ways to mark the day of giving and official start of the giving season:

Rather than our annual Secret Santa, we each bought gift cards and will be donating them to local charities and funded partners who indicated the need for groceries and personal items rather than cash.

We also held a thank-a-thon calling donors and emailing all supporters including workplace campaign coordinators, corporate sponsors, funded partners, media partners, and individual donors. We just wanted to give thanks for the incredible generosity in 2020 and underline the impact of their donations and support.

Last but not least, social media was hopping with Giving Tuesday posts as we announced a donation top up from Canada Helps and thanked our donors for their support:

The United Way also leads the Giving Tuesday Okanagan movement in partnership with Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs and a local steering committee. This year, we arranged for the Mayors in Penticton and Kelowna to do virtual proclamations for Giving Tuesday in lieu of in-person ceremonies at City Hall.
