Dawson Group is the latest local, caring company to create a  workplace campaign with their employees and recently notified us that their campaign has reached nearly $25,000 in its first year! Extraordinary!!

The Dawson Group is a family of companies, including IRL International Truck Centre in Kelowna,  focussing on the provision of services for transportation industries in B.C. The companies are owned by Ian Dawson, whose grandfather started Dawson Construction in 1922. Today, Dawson Group companies are involved in building and maintaining highways and other public infrastructure, as well as in the truck sales, service and transport industries.

“This was our company’s first-ever employee contribution campaign, and I was simply blown away at the generosity of so many of our staff,” said Robert Koopmans, Dawson Group Director of Communications. “I think the fact they knew their donations would stay in their local areas meant a great deal. People want to help others in the places where they live.”

Koopman continues, “After COVID hit in March, we were wondering what we might be able to do to help communities, knowing the community work we’d been able to do in the past wouldn’t be possible. We hit on the idea of working with the United Way, as it’s clear the United Way has expertise and an excellent sense of what is needed.”

“We hope to grow the campaign year after year, and we’re already thinking ahead to next year and how we can make our campaign stronger. We’re grateful for the help United Way provided to our teams to make this first effort a success. This campaign enabled our staff to have local impacts at a time when it is desperately needed, and in a way that was both meaningful and safe.”

The campaign results were a combination of employee payroll deductions and a corporate match.

Thank you Dawson Group for your incredible generosity!  They have also volunteered at United Way events and Days of Caring as well as partnered with us for our annual Child Safety Initiative by providing a 5 ton truck for deliveries.
