June 11, 2019 – Several BMO employees volunteered their Tuesday afternoons to help out at four local charities for a Day of Caring. Every year, United Way brings together multiple volunteer groups to tackle projects at local non-profit agencies. Typical projects include spring yard clean-up, painting, and other labour intensive projects that many non-profits do not have the time or resources to complete on their own. BMO employees volunteered and spent their Day of Caring at The Kelowna Women’s Shelter, Clubhouse Farm, Arion Therapeutic Farms, and South Okanagan Similkameen Brain Injury Society.

Thank you to everyone at BMO that took time out of their Tuesday afternoon to volunteer at these non-profit agencies and help make an impact in the community.

Kelowna Women’s Shelter – Six amazing employees from BMO came to help the Kelowna Women’s Shelter beautify their outdoor space for women and their families. They planted flowers, pulled weeds and cleaned up the sparse areas, preparing it for seeding to allow new grass to grow.

Clubhouse Farm – Four BMO volunteers spent their afternoon sifting and separating donated compost and picking apples. The compost is used for planting fruits and vegetables as well as to teach children about recycling organic material.

Arion Therapeutic Farms – seven BMO employees volunteered their afternoon by pulling weeds, and painting the outside of the main reception house, overall helping to beautify the property.

SOSBIS: BMO employees spent their Day of Caring cleaning up 2 playgrounds at the Columbus Park affordable housing complex.

BACKGROUND:

The Pushor Mitchell United Way Day of Caring® is an annual community-wide event where United Way coordinates teams of volunteers from the local area and matches them with projects at local charities. Volunteer teams take on light construction, gardening and maintenance tasks while gaining behind-the-scenes insight into the work of local non-profit agencies. Multiple projects are completed resulting in hundreds of hours invested in just one day. United Way also organizes custom days of caring throughout the year.
